Our Puppy Allocation Process

When you reserve a puppy with Shorebreak Pals Australian Cobberdogs and we announce the arrival of a litter, we know how exciting that moment is. Naturally, everyone is eager to find out which puppy will become part of their family!

While we regularly share photos and updates of the puppies as they grow, we ask families to be patient before becoming attached to a particular puppy. For very good reasons, we do not allocate puppies to their forever homes until they are around six weeks of age.

This waiting period allows us to make the very best match between each puppy and its new family.

Why do we wait until six weeks?

Although a puppy's coat colour is usually apparent from birth, many of the characteristics that are important when matching a puppy with its family take time to develop.

Size

Newborn puppies are often very similar in size. By around six weeks of age, their individual growth patterns become much clearer, allowing us to better estimate whether they are likely to mature as a Miniature, Medium or Standard Australian Cobberdog.

Temperament

From the day they are born, our puppies are handled with love and care every day. We provide Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), extensive socialisation and positive early experiences to help them develop into confident, well-adjusted companions.

Over these first six weeks, we get to know each puppy's unique personality. Some are naturally adventurous and energetic, while others are calm, gentle and more relaxed. Your Puppy Application provides us with valuable information about your lifestyle, family and expectations, enabling us to carefully match you with the puppy whose temperament best suits your home.

Health

At approximately six weeks of age, every puppy receives a comprehensive veterinary health examination. This gives us confidence that each puppy is healthy and developing as expected before they are allocated to their forever family.

How puppies are allocated

Once we have assessed each puppy's size, temperament and health, we begin the allocation process.

Puppies are allocated in order of confirmed reservations to families who have completed their booking and deposit requirements. Our priority is always making the best possible match for both the puppy and its new family—not simply selecting based on colour or photographs.

Once your puppy has been allocated, we invite you to meet your new family member, spend some time together and capture plenty of photos as you prepare for your puppy's homecoming.

Bringing your puppy home

Your Shorebreak Pals Australian Cobberdog will be ready to join your family at approximately eight weeks of age.

Before leaving us, your puppy will have:

• A comprehensive veterinary health check

• Age-appropriate vaccinations

• Microchipping

• Worming treatments

• A veterinary vaccination record

• A Puppy Information Pack to help you prepare for your new companion
